The first mention of beer brewing in Vysoký Chlumec comes from 1466. From 1474, the brewery was in the ownership of the Roudnice branch of the Lobkowiczs, the traditional Czech noble family, who - except for periods of submission - owned the brewery until 2006. At present, the brewery is operated by K Brewery, the Czech company making efforts to revive the tradition of Czech beer brewing.
The oldest written description of the brewery in Vysoký Chlumec is dated 1611. Even in those times, there were two brewing rooms. The very first detailed description of the beer brewing technology dates from 1642. In 1652 the brewery facilities were renovated. The beer produced in the princely brewery in Vysoký Chlumec enjoyed a good reputation for centuries.
During the periods 1939–1945 and 1948–1992, the Lobkowicz family had no power of ownership over the brewery house. After restitution in 1992, the Lobkowicz family invested significant finances in the modernisation and innovation of beer brewing in Vysoký Chlumec, which revived the quality and fame of the beer produced in Vysoký Chlumec.
The new owner, Pivovary Lobkowicz, will be quality-minded in the future as well, to maintain the reputation, unique style and top quality of the beer brewed in Vysoký Chlumec. This is to say that we believe that the value of Czech beer brewing comes from the individual character of the breweries, being developed from the natural variety.
When brewing our beers, we always respect the character of the brand and the product - and we do respect the craft. We brew our beers according to traditional recipes. We use basic materials of top quality and follow proven procedures. This is how real, unadulterated beer is brewed.
